Super grover hat

I have made this pattern a while back and so far it is my most favorite pattern of a hat I have made.
Until now I have sold serveral hats and patterns but now I have desided to spread this pattern for free. Why? Because there is an licence on them and I don't want to be a girl who get rich (okay, I did not earn a lot with it but still) over someone elses idea.
So, you lucky bastards can crochet them any time you like!
And if you want to feel really lucky keep in post with my blog because Bert and Ernie will join Grover very soon! I will translate them from my Dutch pattern!

All year round challenge: The D from Dog

For the letter D in my challenge I knew right away what I wanted to design.

My baby girl (she turns 6 next week, but you know she is the youngest so she is my baby) wanted slippers after the amazing Ninja Turtle slippers I made for my boy. This girl is a real girly girl so pink must do. And I don't know about you guys but I really like a poodle, the pink ones in particular. So the slippers needed to be poodles.

Source: poodleforum.com

In the past I had found a crocheted poodle hat, so with that image in mind I started to crochet.

My baby girl is in LOVE and mommy as well! These ones turn out real adorable!! And I almost think it's a waiste to wear them. But hey, if they are dirty I crochet a pair of new ones, in purple maybe or blue with bows around the ears! Come to think about it, I think I will do that last option very soon ;)

So now you are waiting for the moment when I say, here is the FREE pattern?

Okay, so here is the FREE pattern!!!

Will you let me enjoy your version of the slipper? Please send me a mail or massage at my Facebook page and I will share your version with all of my fans on Facebook!

I made these slippers for a girl with shoe size 30 (European size), 11 (UK), 12 (US). The size is adjustable by adding or leaving a round.
I am going to try to make the slipper for a bigger size also, so keep checking the pattern if you also like them in adult size.

For a half double crochet loop stitch you need to yarn over first and then make the loopstitch.

Round 12: ch 2, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc around, 1 dc in same st as ch 2. Bind off.

Hold the slipper with the toe towards you and count 10 st to the right from the seam. Join yarn and follow the next steps.

Join yarn in the middle of the back of the slipper.

Round 1: ch 2, dc across the opening of the slipper, make sure you increase 4 times equally.
Round 2: ch 2, dc across, make sure to increase 2 times.
Round 3 - 5: ch 2, dc across.
Round 6: ch 1, turn, sc loopstitch across.
Round 7 - 8: ch 1, sc loopstitch across. In the last round bind off and weave in ends. In the last round bind off and weave in ends.

Eyes

Round 1: 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 7 hdc, do not turn but go further on the other side of the chain and make 8 hdc (16 st), join in first hdc.

Now go further on the other side of the chain.

Round 2 - 6: ch 2, hdc with a loopstitch around (16 st), join in first hdc.

Yarn over

Stick through stitch

 Yarn under hook

Grab both threads with hook and pull through stitch

All year round challenge: The C from Cow

It's not even february but I am already half way for this month!
After the A and B I wanted for the C a real wicked one! I could have picked the C from Cat but I didn't want to make one, because it's crocheted so often already.
So I wanted something else, now it was between a crab and a cow. For a crab I wanted a hat but my last challenge was already a hat, so I chose the cow.
I thought of slippers, a doorstop or a bag and then my weird brain interfered, it must be a bag with udders, and so I started with a lot of fun!

And here is the C from Cow!

Do you love this bag as much as I do, well it's your lucky day, this pattern is FREE!

• Yarn

• Fiberfill
• Hook size H,  5 mm
• Tapestry needle

Slipstitch - slst

A: Click here for the video.

Q: How to decrease?
A: Crochet a double crochet like normal but lease te last loop unworked (2 loops on hook), then double crochet in the next stitch and finish through the last 3 loops.

Q: How to make a crab stitch?
A: The crab stitch is the single crochet but only reverse. Click here for video.

Bag

With pink
Round 1: Crochet  11 dc in a magic ring.
Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in elk dc (22 st), join.
Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in 1st stitch 1 dc in next, repeat  to end  (33 st), join.

Round 5: ch 2, 2 dc in 1st stitch, 1 in the next 3, repeat  to end  (55 st), join.
Round 6: ch 2, 2 dc in 1st stitch, 1 in next 10, repeat  to end  (60 st), join.
Round 7: ch 2, 2 dc in 1st stitch, 1 in next 11, repeat  to end  (65 st),  join.
Round 8: ch 2, 2 dc in 1st stitch, 1 in next 12, repeat  to end  (70 st), join.
Round 9 - 10: ch 2, 1 dc in each  stitch (70 st), join.
Change color to white
Round 11 - 18: ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch (70 st), join.
Round 19: ch 2, 1 dc in next 14, 2dctog, repeat to end (65 st), join.
Round 20: ch 1, 1 sc around (65 st), join.

Round 21: ch 1, sc 6, ch 2, skip 2 st, repeat to end, join.
Round 22: ch 1, sc around (65 st), join.
Change color to white
Round 23 - 24: ch 1, sc around (65 st), join.
Change color to pink
Round 25: ch 1, and crab stitch around, bind off.

Udder

Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring.
Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st (12 st), join.
Round 3 - 14: ch 1, 1 sc around (12 st).
Bind off, leaving long tail.

Sew the udders in a square between the 4th and 6th round from middle.

Do you see the crab stitch, this is an perfect edge for this bag!

String

Cut a string of each color that fits two times around the bag, fold them in the middle and make a braid with three colors.

Tassels

There are many ways to make tassels, but we are scouts made a great tutorial >>>click<<<

Handle

Okay, for this one I made an extra large kumihimo disc.
This disc is 9 inches and the middle is 2-3 inches. See tutorial here (it's Dutch but the pictures are really easy to follow).

Now cut the size you want for the handle x 2 because you have to fold it in half. So i wanted 13 inches, so I cut 10 string of 26 inches of black and 5 strings pink and 5 strings white.

Spots

So here you can go nuts! Cut the spots in the size or form you want out of felt and sew them on the white part of the bag.

And there you have it, an amazing cow udder bag!!

Oh and my little model also wanted to strike a pose with her cow hat and the bag (this one likes been photographed)!!

And here she is the cow, you see?

Holding the tail upside down, join with white on the right side of the tail and sc across to the left side of the tail.

Now sew the tail on to the hat right between the earflaps.

Braided tails

With dark brown, light brown and white.
Cut 16 straps of each color about 16 inch (40 cm)  and split the colors in 2.
Grap with a bigger hook the straps from the inside out on the earflap (see image) and pull through the earflap, now pull the ends of the straps through the loop and pull.
Sort the colors, make a braid en knot the ends. Cut even.

And you did it! A super cute beaver hat is in the pocket!!

All year round challenge: The A from Alligator

So this year I came up with a challenge for the whole year! Crochet animals in alphabethical order.

And today it's the A from Alligator.
Since we live in an old farm there is a lot of draft these days in the winter. Although, it is quite warm for the time of year, I don't know how it is over there?
So I came up with a draft strip, and frankly I love the way it turned out!

And today I will share my pattern with you!

Alligator draft strip

Materials

  • Yarn color: green 150 grams, small amount of yellow, white and black
  • Hook H, 5 mm
  • Old pair of tights, socks, t-shirts or other old fabrik
  • Fiberfill
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

4 inch x 4 inch = 12 stitches x 8 rows

Stitches

Chain = ch
Slip stitch = slst
Single crochet = sc
Half double crochet = hdc
Double crochet = dc
2 double crochet together = 2dctog
Bobble stitch = bobble

Same stitch =s/st

Other info

  1. Always start with a double crochet in the same stitch as the chain 2.
  2. When increasing always end in the same stitch as chain 2.
  3. Never count the chain 2 as first double crochet.
  4. Always slip stitch in the first double crochet, not in the chain 2.

Questions & Answers

Q: How to make a magic ring?
A: Click here for the video.

Q: How to make a bobble stitch?
A: We make our bobble with 5 double crochet instead of 4.
Work 5 dc in 1 stitch leaving the last loop unworked on the hook. When you have 6 loops on the hook pull through all the 6 loops and there it is, a bobble.

Q: How to decrease invicible? (so not the way I did, my way was wrong!!!)
A: Yarn over, put the hook through the stitch, yarn over, pull (now you have 2 loops on your hook), yarn over, hook through next stitch, yarn over, pull, yarn over and pull through the 3 loops left on the hook.

Body

We work the body in rows, because the bobble stitch turns up on the wrong side.

Row 1: 6 dc in magic ring, the first 2 ch don't count as first dc, turn.
Row 2: ch 2, *1 dc in first, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (9st), turn.
Row 3: ch 2,*2 dc in first 2 st, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (12st),  turn.
Row 4: ch 2, *3 dc in first 3 st, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (15 st), turn.
Row 5: ch 2, *4 dc in first 4 st, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (18 st), turn.
Row 6: ch 2, *5 dc in first 5 st, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (21 st), turn.
Row 7: ch 2, *6 dc in first 6 st, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (24 st), turn.
Row 8: ch 2, *7 dc in first 7 st, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (27 st), turn.
Row 9: ch 2, *8 dc in first 8 st, 2 dc in the next* repeat to end (30 st), turn.
Row 10: ch 2, 9 dc, bobble, 5 dc, bobble, 14 dc (30 st), turn.
Row 11: ch 2, dc across (30 st), turn.
Row 12 - 58: repeat row 10 + 11.
Row 59: ch 2, 9 dc, bobble, 2 dc, 2dctog, 1 dc, bobble, 7 dc, 2dctog , 5 dc (28 st), turn.
Row 60: ch 2, dc across (28 st), turn.
Row 61: ch 2, 9 dc, bobble, 1 dc, 2dctog, 1 dc, bobble, 6 dc, 2dctog, 5 dc (26 st), turn.
Row 62: ch 2, dc across (26 st) , turn.
Row 63: ch 2, 9 dc, bobble, 1 dc, 2dctog, bobble, 5 dc, 2dctog, 5 dc (24 st), turn.
Row 64: ch 2, 6 dc, *2 dc in 1 st* repeat in total of 3 times, 11 dc, *2 dc in 1 st* repeat in total of 3 times, 2 dc (31 st), turn.
Row 65: ch 2, 2 dc, *2 dc in 1 st* repeat in total of 6 times, 4 dc, bobble, 2dctog, bobble, 4 dc, *2 dc in 1 st* repeat in total of 6 times, 5 dc (42 st), turn.
Row 66: ch 2, dc across (42 st), turn.
Row 67: ch 2, dc across (42 st), turn.
Now is the time for stuffing the alligator. So take your old tights and stuff it with your old socks, t-shirts and other old fabric you wanten to throw away (this is recycling people!) and slide (and push) it in to the body. Now go further and stuff it after every row a little bit.
Row 68: ch 2, 7 dc, *dc2tog* repeat 6 times, 11 dc, *dc2tog* repeat 6 times (30 st), turn.
Row 69: ch 2, 1 dc,  *dc2tog* repeat 3 times, 11 dc, *dc2tog* repeat 3 times, 6 dc (24 st), turn.
Row 70: ch 2, dc across (24 st), turn.
Row 71: ch 2, 5 dc, 2dctog, 10 dc,  2dctog, 5 dc (22 st), turn.
Row 72: ch 2, dc across (22 st), turn.
Row 73: ch 2, 4 dc, 2dctog, 9 dc, 2dctog, 5 dc (20 st), turn.
Row 74: ch 2, 4 dc, 2dctog, 8 dc, 2dctog, 4 dc (18 st), bind off but leave a long tail.
Now weave a round through the stitches and pull so it finish up in a round.

Legs

Frontleg
I made one because other wise it doesn't fit against the door. For a toy better make two.
Round 1: 6 dc in magic ring.
Round 2: ch 2, 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in every st, 1 dc in same st as ch 2 (12 st)
Round 3: ch 2, 1 dc around
Round 4 - 11: ch 2, 1 dc around, 1 dc in same st as ch 2 (this way we increase every round), in the last round bind off.

Turn your leg on the inside out and sew the 5th and 6th round together with 6 stitched. Stuff the leg lightly and sew on the body.

Back leg
Round 1: 6 dc in magic ring.
Round 2: ch 2, 1 dc in same st, 2 dc in every st, 1 dc in same st as ch 2 (12 st)
Round 3: ch 2, 1 dc around
Round 4 - 14: ch 2, 1 dc around, 1 dc in same st as ch 2 (this way we increase every round), in the last round bind off.

Turn your leg on the inside out and sew the 5th and 6th round together with 6 stitches.
Now stuff the leg half, and sew on the opposite side the 11th and 12th round together with 6 stitches. Fill the leg lightly and sew on the body.

Nail

Make two

With white
Ch 8, 1 slst in 4th ch from hook, 1 sc, *ch 3, 1 slst in 3th ch from hook, 1 sc* repeat in total of 3 times.

Eyes

Make two
With green
Row 1: 6 sc in magic ring, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: 2 sc in each st (12 st), ch 1, turn.
Row 3: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, sc along the side with 6 sc, slst in first sc, bind off.

With yellow
Round 1: 6 sc crochet in magic ring.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 st), bind off.

Sew the yellow piece on to the green piece along the straight side. So it becomes a up standing eye.

Sew a black stripe in the middle of the eye.

Tooth

Make two
With white
Ch 5, slst in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, bind off.

First embroider a beak onto the alligator and then sew the tooth pointing up.

And tadaaaa a Alligator draft strip!
